Also, known as Easter, this year. But it's my birthday every year. I'm just saying.
I've recently started watching The Office. I know! How could I have not seen this show before last month? I don't know. I watch a lot of television, but most of it is animated or involves superheroes (and I don't mean Heroes, either). My brother had a season two disc of The Office from Netflix and he told me I had to watch some of it. So, I did. And now I'm hooked. I've watched the first season (only six episodes) and have just started watching the second season. It's possible that a miracle will occur and I'll watch the third season before the fourth season starts in the Fall.
It's a very funny show. I'm sure you all know this already, as you have all seen it before. But I enjoy making obvious statements when I'm bored. Clearly.
Since I'm bored, I propose we play Desert Island like they do on the show.
My answers:
3 books: Anna Karenina, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, and Little Women
5 movies: Secretary, A Bug's Life, Go, The Mummy, and The Mummy Returns
Bonus - "Who would you do?"
Hmm... I'll have to think about this one.
I'm bored.
I want to take a class this fall, strictly for fun, but I can't decide what to take. Help me decide.
- Language: French 101 or Arabic 102
- Economics: I have no idea what I would take here. As an undergrad I only took 101 and 102 and a 600-level individual study course (which was my 6-credit bachelor's essay). As a grad I took two international economics courses, no idea what the course numbers were for that.
- Art: I took a bunch of art classes as an undergrad, but it's been so long since I've done anything in that vein, I could take almost anything, even if I've taken it before.
I've always wanted to do my MLA. Maybe I'll look into that. Hmm...
I'm on it. I won't be checking in. Be well.
Would you go on vacation by yourself, and if so where would you go?

I plan to answer the question, I really do, but first I'm going to comment on couples who share one blog (or email address). I just don't get it, especially on a blog-platform like Vox, which awesome as it is, does not allow for multiple author accounts. Plus, since Vox is free, it's not a cost-saving issue either. I understand couples who each have their own blog, but not the two people - one blog thing. Even as part of a couple, your day to day lives and perceptions have to differ at some point. And it seems in most cases that one partner ends up doing the majority of the blogging anyway, so why tack on your partner?
As far as email accounts, the most notorious example of couple sharing in my personal life is my father and stepmother. It's not really an issue now, since we are strictly incommunicado, but back in the day, there was no way to send an email to just my father or just my stepmother. They only had one account. What went to one, went to both. It wasn't due to a limit on the number of accounts they could have or a cost issue. Why have just one? Surely, the people who wanted to write to both of them at the same time could be taxed to add one additional email to the list of receipients? Granted, even if they had separate accounts, I'm sure my stepmother would read my dad's mail. That's just how she rolls, but at least make a pretense of separate accounts. I'm probably overthinking this. Have you ever noticed this? Has it ever bothered you? That's my question of the day.
Back to the question at hand. Yes, I would go on vacation by myself. I think a more interesting question would have been, "Have you gone on vacation by yourself, and if so where did you go?" I love to hear/read travel stories. All of my solo travel has been more by accident, rather than design, but I've always enjoyed myself on my own.
Dublin: I tagged along on a business trip. While my dad was in meetings all day, I was poking around the city, going to whiskey tastings and seeing the Book of Kells. There was even a flight to Paris one day and that's another great city to be on your own in. I had just enough time to take in a quick tour of the Musee d'Orsay. At night, while my dad was sleeping, I was hitting the Dublin clubs. Traveling on your own forces you to talk to people you probably wouldn't have met if you had a traveling companion. It can be interesting and fun. You just can't be shy about striking up a conversation.
Venice: My friend and I signed up for a package tour of Italy. The only problem? She missed her flight. She caught up with me a few days later, but the days I spent on my own were actually my most enjoyable. I got to do exactly what I wanted to do, which included another art museum, that my friend would have had no interest in.
New York: On my recent trip to the Big Apple, my best friend blew up at me and left a day early. Rather than slink home myself, I stayed and finished out the trip on my own. Sure, I would have had more fun without the fight, but I had a great time by myself, too. Again, I got to do exactly what I wanted to do without having to reach consensus. I enjoyed a great meal and went to a party with new friends I had only recently met. If she had only left me a little earlier, I could have gone to an art musuem that she had vetoed visiting, but as it was, I didn't have time.
Maybe I just need to make some friends who like to travel and visit art museums?
As to where I would go solo, I really want to take a trip to SE Asia. No one in my life has any interest in coming with me, so that's a trip I'll probably make on my own at some point.
Left: Sliced boiled egg and tomato and marinated mozzarella skewer on a bed of romaine lettuce. Bleu cheese dressing in the Hello Kitty cup.
Top Right: Greek yogurt with desert honey and blueberries.
Bottom Right: Baby carrots. Duh.
